Hey! Did You see that?

Seriously! The senate got past one of those damnable Republican filibusters and managed to get them to end talk on a bill that both cuts the deficit and helps out cash strapped states.

Now that's what I call progress. Mind you it isn't great progress, there were, after all, only 2 Republicans who found enough sanity to vote for a deficit reducing bill that helps keep firefighters and teachers on the payroll. Is there bad in the bill? Ya, $11,000,000,000 in food stamps has been cut. There are people in America who don't make enough to live on, and they need to eat. The Dems said they will work to keep that bit from taking effect, Good news there!

The bill also cuts spending by $8,000,000,000, it cuts out a $9,000,000,000 foreign tax loophole. And helps a lot of states that really need the help. Plenty of good here. Tell me something, all you fans of Mitch McConnell, who vehemently opposed this bill, and his other 37 friends on the floor of the Senate, what part of cutting the deficit by 1.4 billion dollars and helping keep thousands of important public sector jobs, while closing tax loopholes and cutting spending is bad exactly? Mitch said some crap about states not making hard choices.

That's a load of crap and you know it, Mitch. I'm from New York, and here we have had to slash budgets all over the place just to make ends meet, and it is STILL a mess. Pennsylvania has had to do much the same thing, and we've all seen what Governor Schwarzenegger has had to go through in California to try to stay afloat. ALL the states in this union are making hard choices, and they don't whine like you do, Sen McConnell.

The United States of America is a great nation, and we need to keep our states strong to keep the nation strong. In fighting this bill tooth and nail to the bitter end, the right wing (gotta start calling them the wrong wing, they are wrong about everything, dammit) of this country has proven that they care only about their agenda, and nothing for the hard working people of this country.

America salutes you, Senators Snowe and Collins, for crossing the aisle and voting to help the people in the face of the irresponsible behavior of your Republican colleagues and join the Democrats in doing something for OUR people when they are in need.

America also salutes the Democrats, for bearing up under the intense pressure the right wing media circus has brought to bear upon you, one and all. You've come through for us again, and we thanks you all from the bottom of our hearts. Good Job everyone!

Now let's try and find a way to get the $11,000,000,000 in food stamps that you guys cut out of this legislation back on the table somewhere. There's got to be a way to make that deficit neutral. It pays for itself a great deal better than the Bush Tax cuts, and helps keep the working class fed. That is a good thing.

Let's get to work on that.
